The Predictive Validity of the Pharmacy College Admission Test as Compared With That of Other Academic Predictors

For the pharmacy class of 103 juniors who entered Oregon State University in 1974, the predictive power of entering grade point average (GPA) was compared with that of GPA combined with other academic predictors and with that of sections of the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT). A regression equation incorporating entering GPA, calculus grade, and grades in two sections of the PCAT was significantly more useful than entering GPA alone. A minimum sum of scores in three PCAT sections was found to be the most effective screen. Cross-validation efforts with new samples were strongly recommended.
