Magnetic Charged System Search Algorithm for Optimum Design of Large-Scale Truss Structures

Due to high computational cost, performing an optimal design of a large-scale structure is a difficult task. The need for repeating some processes for optimization algorithms in one hand, and the necessity of assembling large stiffness matrices and their solution for analysis on the other hand are the main issues involved in the optimization. Following successful applications of the Charged System Search (CSS) algorithm for structural problems, and its extension to Magnetic Charged System Search (MCSS), this paper utilizes the MCSS, and combines it with a suitable constraint handling method to perform the optimal design of large-scale truss structures. The results of some benchmark examples using the presented algorithm are compared to those of an improved CSS.
