A control of microgrid power converter with smooth transient response during the change of connection mode

The microgrid structure needs, at least, one power converter able to work as a grid-forming converter. In fact, such converter must present two operations modes: grid-forming when the main grid is outage; grid-following (or grid-supporting) when the main grid is available. This paper presents a control scheme that allows this microgrid power converter operates in both operations mode (grid-forming and grid-supporting). Besides, the transient response during the operation mode changes occurs smoothly. Results of simulations and experiments are presented to prove the feasibility and performance of the proposed control scheme.
