Research on Optimization of Generators Starting Sequence Including DC Converter Station

As HVDC is superior to AC in some aspects, such as transmission capacity, controllability and stability, HVDC has been applied widely around the world. At present, research on recovery path of outage grid mainly focuses on the restarting of thermal power units and hydropower unit, while little attention is paid on the restoration of DC converter station. The restarting of DC converter station needs to meet certain constraints, so common power system restoration schemes are not suitable for power system with DC converter station. In this paper, the requirements for starting the DC converter station are studied. Based on that, a recovery path optimization method of power system with DC converter station is proposed. When selecting the recovery path with critical path method and backtracking method, the objective is to maximize the ratio of power generation during preset time T to recovery time T. To make sure every generator can be restarted in time, the factors considered are start time, start requirements of generators, power flow constraints of the grid and start conditions of DC converter station. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulation of 10 - Machine 39 - Bus New England power system.
