Modelado Markoviano de Tráfico Agregado ATM

In this paper we describe and compare different markovian strategies when they are designed to approximate aggregate ATM traffic. In particular we focus our study on the two-state MMPP (Markov Modulated Poisson Process) model because of its simplicity and ability to match both cell and burst scales. The queueing behaviour of MMPP model is studied depending on the characterisation policy and the chosen statistical descriptor of ATM traffic. The study is performed using the aggregation of two different classes of individual sources modelled via On-Off processes. Finally the comparison is extended to an actual ATM trace, proving the capability of MMPP models to fit real aggregate ATM traffic.
