Imaging weak scatterers by means of an innovative inverse scattering technique based on the Interval Analysis

A novel approach based on Interval Analysis and the arithmetic of intervals is proposed in this paper to the reconstruction of weak scatterers in microwave inverse scattering problems. Interval Analysis is exploited as a powerful optimization tool able to find the global minimum of a functional in a multi-dimensional solution space. The approach is based on a branch and bound process with the aim of deleting the portion of the solution not containing the global optimum. The procedure stops when suitable convergence criteria are achieved based on the evaluation of the remaining part of the admissible solution space.
