Application of Linear System Models for Estimation of Wash Load

The applicability and validity of linear system theory for prediction of temporal distribution of wash load from a large hilly catchment have been investigated. Unit sediment graph and series graph models were applied to Chaukhutia catchment of Ramganga river for regeneration and prediction of sediment graphs. The sediment graphs regenerated and predicted by unit sediment graph method and series graph method in all cases resulted in better agreement with their measured counterparts. The measured and predicted peak sediment flow rates were also correlated with the mobilised-sediment. The results of the study reported herein can be served as a guideline for furthering use of linear system theory in wash load prediction.
