Experimental verification of dependence of the cutting forces prediction accuracy on the uncut chip cross section modeling in turning

Abstract Simulation of machining is increasingly becoming an indispensable tool in the process of production preparation. At the same time, more and more complex models of the division of the uncut chip cross section in determining of the cutting forces are being observed, which does not necessarily increase the reliability of the results. This article introduces the cutting force modeling, which uses a variety of methods to divide the uncut chip cross section into segments that correspond to a straight and curvilinear cutting edge. The results were verified by measuring the modeled cutting forces during turning with different insert geometries.
