Queuing analysis of adaptive modulation coding combined with vacation over wireless links

Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) makes full use of wireless channel fading, and improves spectral efficiency. The service process with vacation is of generality and practical applications in wireless communication system. The queuing behavior induced by combining AMC scheme and vacation is analyzed with an embedded Markov chain. Analytical expressions for performance metrics such as queuing stationary distribution, packet average delay, packet drop rate and throughput are derived, and the impacts of packet arrival rate, service vacation periods, SNR, and Doppler frequency on queue are investigated as well.
