A-Chain formation and economy of derivation

Selon Epstein (1992), le principe d'economie de derivation de Chomsky a une consequence interessante sur la formation des chaines-Ā en anglais : il predit que les syntagmes-WH ne peuvent pas optionnellement subir de topicalisation, de scrambling ou de mouvement-WH a la structure-S des questions multiples. Les As. montrent ici que les syntagmes-WH peuvent, au contraire, subir des mouvements optionnels dans des circonstances bien definies et dans des langues typologiquement differentes. Ils pretendent que les cas illicites de mouvement-WH optionnel ne devraient pas etre exclus par une contrainte d'economie transderivationnelle, et developpent une analyse alternative basee sur le Principe du liage sans equivoque
