Consideration of parallel reactors for ozone production using nanosecond pulsed power discharge

In recent years, the industrial applications of ozone have increased and been extended to large areas including an oxidization, sterilization, bleaching and decolorization. Ozone is generated by ultraviolet ray irradiation, electrolysis and discharge. Now, nanosecond pulsed power generating equipment is developed and the ozone production experiment is conducted. As the width of pulsed power shortens, the efficiency to produce ozone would be raised. At the same time, new problems rise to the surface. They are an optimization of the dimension of the reactor and matching between pulsed power generator and the reactor. Then, not increasing the dimension of a reactor but parallel connecting of reactors is adopted. A reactor consists of wire vs. cylinder electrodes. 8 parallel reactors give ozone yield of over 550 g/kWh H. Togo et al., (2004). Since the control of arc discharge is successful owing to applying nanosecond pulsed power on parallel reactors, a higher electric field is obtained and ratio of discharge volume on reactor volume increases. In this study, the experimental result connecting reactors in parallel is reported in detail.
