School health education 15 years on

THE publication of three major reports on education during the 1960s coincided with the creation of the Health Education Council, and the appointment of health education officers. The Schools Health Edu cation Project, the Teachers Advisory Council on Alcohol and Drug Education, and the HEC My Body project, stimulated the further advancement of school health education during the 1970s. The role of the school co-ordinator of health education, and the use of lifeskills training and tutorial-based methods, were strengthened during the early 1980s. If this suc cess is to be sustained, co-ordination and planning need to be improved.
