Application of stair-like generalized predictive control to industrial boiler

Using a very simple assumption the authors propose a new control strategy: stair-like control. This paper presents a modified version of the generalized predictive controller (GPC) originally developed by Clarke et al. (1987) with the new control strategy, which the authors call the stair-like generalized predictive controller (SGPC). The new controller does not require online matrix inversion calculation and computer simulations show that its robustness is much better than GPC, especially if the model is under parameters. They use this controller on a 20 T/h industrial steam boiler, the resulting performance is satisfying, and much better than that of a PID controller and GPC.<<ETX>>
