TWIN: the new generation of elevators

At the end of 2002, ThyssenKrupp Aufzugswerke launched TWIN, the first high-performance elevator system in which two cars are operated independently in a single shaft. A TWIN system consists in principle of two traction elevators installed in a constructional space normally required for one traction elevator. A four-stage safety concept ensures that the cars always maintain a minimum distance from each other and thus cannot collide. Combined with at least one conventional system, TWIN can substantially increase flexibility and capacity while reducing the number of necessary shafts.
