Integrating Terrain Surface and Street Network for 3D Routing

For true 3D navigation applications that combine terrain data, city models, landmarks, and other 3D geo data, a real 3D street network is necessary for route calculations. In this paper we describe how such a network can be derived automatically using detailed digital terrain models. Furthermore a method is described for how the terrain model can be enhanced by integrating the roads directly into the triangulation system and by correcting the surface. All processes are encapsulated and made available as Web Processing Services in order to simplify their integration into Spatial DataqInfrastructures.
