Innovation in automotive: A challenge for 5G and beyond network

This paper presents an overview of the automotive industry evolution, with the objective of highlighting some disruptive innovations that are redefining global mobility. The analysis is conducted from multiple perspectives: market demands, environmental requirements, business models and enabling technologies, including network connectivity, new materials, engines and driverless solutions. Appropriate attention is devoted to telecommunication network infrastructure, which represents a strategic element to enable autonomous driving vehicles. It is contended that the 5G and beyond network should provide the required quality of service, in terms of throughput, reliability, programmability, security and delay.
