Cellular Architectures: From Automata to Hardware.

Abstract : Cellular automata have been studied for many years both as pattern generators and as acceptors for pattern languages. At the same time, computer architectures analogous to two-dimensional cellular automata have been proposed and used for image processing and recognition. In recent years, various extensions to the basic cellular automation concept have been proposed. These extensions should be of interest in connection with the design of future hardware system for image processing and analysis. (Author)
