Wind turbine outage rate modeling based on operating conditions

As a green energy, wind is widely used around the world in recent decades. And reliable operation of wind turbines is closely related to the safe operation of power grid. In this paper, factors which cause wind turbine outage are analysed to establish the outage rate model of a wind turbine, from the point of assessing wind turbine operation reliability. First, factors which cause outage of wind turbine components are analysed and classified. After that, the outage rate model of a component is built based on each type of factors classified. This paper divides the wind turbine into two parts, including the generator and the transmission system. The outage rate model of the generator is established based on the voltage and frequency according to the time limit for protection action. And the outage rate model of the transmission system is established based on the failure rate of the transmission system which changes with wind load. Finally, the outage rate of the wind turbine is obtained. An example has been analysed to illustrate the proposed model.
