A new method of flux or inductance measurement for switched reluctance motors

This paper describes a relatively simple, low power-input circuit which can be used to measure the inductance of a reluctance machine winding or DC choke at different values of current for which saturation occurs. The circuit actually measures the flux-linkage from which the inductance can be calculated. The circuit may be used for measuring the inductance under saturation of a motor winding or inductor. An accuracy of about 1% has been achieved. The circuit could be extended to measure higher values of flux linkage at higher currents by increasing the size of the source capacitors.
