This article describes the work of the working group appointed by BSI sub-committee B/517/1/1 'Durability of concrete', to investigate the requirements of CEN prestandard prEN206 Concrete for concrete in aggressive soils and groundwater. The report of the working group was used as input into EN206 and BS8500, the complementary British Standard that is to be published. The scope of work was essentially to consider constituent materials and their combination with respect to durability in an aggressive environment. The group identified two main tasks : - to consider the classes of exposure and limiting values, - to consider the requirements for concrete to resist the classes of exposure.
