Recently, IACS have been developing the CSR including residual strength after marine accident according to one of GBS’s requirements. Among marine accidents, stranding/grounding accidents of ship were occasionally occurred at coastal sea around a submerged rock during ship operating. If ship has damage on the hull structure, her ultimate strength will be reduced and residual strength may be decreased due to loosing the main structure members. In this report, the ultimate strength and structural capacity of VLCC with damage after grounding accident was calculated and verified. Totally, four damage scenarios were applied to mid-hold area under symmetric condition. In these simulations, the damage conditions were applied in accordance to Classification Society guidance.
