Influence of Antioxidants on Electrical Tree Properties in EPDM under Liquid Nitrogen

This paper focused on the effects of antioxidant on the resistance to electrical tree degradation in EPDM under liquid nitrogen. In the study, a needle-plane electrode system was used to investigate the electrical treeing characteristics under liquid nitrogen. In the test, the pulse amplitude was 25 kV with pulse frequency of 200 Hz. The results showed that the electrical tree was deaccelerated under liquid nitrogen in EPDM. Moreover, the antioxidant was served as the degradation inhibitor in EPDM, which restrained electrical treeing process in both room temperature and liquid nitrogen environment. This research has substantial commercial significance in high temperature superconducting insulation areas.
