Database as a tool in production simulation

Abstract This paper describes the integration of a database system with a simulation model and highlights the related advantages. The simulation model was developed to study the production and procurement scheduling problems faced by a particular manufacturing industry. The computational part of the model was programmed in Fortran while a database was developed to manage the large volume of data needed to support the simulation model. The query language component of the database was also found to be very useful in analyzing the simulation results.
