The development of a tool to semi-automatically perform image quality evaluation

Image quality is critical to all imaging modalities. A quantitative image quality evaluation system is proposed and one corresponding general purpose tool is developed to semi-automatically perform quantitative evaluations for research purposes. This tool is designed based on the open-source data analysis framework ROOT and optimized for molecular imaging. Both basic metrics focusing on basic Positron Emission Tomography (PET) image analysis and advanced metrics focusing on specific clinical studies are designed and developed for quantification. Statistical analysis is also made available through ROOT. Demonstrations of tool applications are presented including routine quantitative image quality evaluation, study specific evaluation and statistical evaluation.
