13C NMR and IR Evidence for the Two Types of Copper(I) and (II) Complexes with 5-Pyrido-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-ones

Abstract 5-Pyrido-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-onederivatives 1–9 are investigated as potential 1,4-N,N-bidentate ligands in copper(I) and (II) complexes. On the basis of 13C NMR and IR spectra two types of complexation are revealed. In the first ones, ligands 1–5behave as l,4-N,N-bidentates, whereas their 4,5-dihydro congeners 6–9 unexpectedly form N,O-bidentate complexes, engaging carbonyl oxygen and pyridine nitrogen as the coordination sites.
