Physical properties of the lungs in giant cysts. Report of a case treated surgically.

THE purpose of this report is to describe a young man with giant cysts of the lungs who presented a near terminal phase of chronic pulmonary insufficiency and cor pulmonale. The case is unusual because bilateral excisional surgery relieved all the symptoms and reversed the physiologic abnormalities. Detailed studies of lung function and the physical properties of the lungs were carried out before and after operation.
