Design and Optimization of Voice Record/Playback System Based on ADPCM and the Implementation on FPGA

In this paper, the principle and architecture of the encoder and the decoder of Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation(ADPCM) are introduced. Then, the VLSI implementation of IMA-ADPCM encoder/decoder and related circuits is proposed with Verilog HDL dedicatedly for voice record/playback application. The result and explanation are presented after simulation. Based on our working, resource consumption is reduced 1/3 by optimizing the structure of the encoder and decoder. Finally, a simulation platform is established on the foundation of Altera′s UP3 education kit. The function of voice record/playback is realized and the performance gains our ends.
