An Emergent Approach for System Designs

An emergent approach for system designs is introduced. First, the process of system design is reformulated in the framework of the set and mapping theory, and the problem of system design is defined as an inverse mapping from the set of specifications depending on a certain environment to the set of components and their connections. Next, the problems are classified from the viewpoint of the information on specifications and an environment. The concepts of evolution, adaptation, learning and coordination can be related to the classified problem. An emergent design procedure is defined in the framework of these concepts, especially, by taking the evolutionary computing techniques into account.
