Safety Performance of Concrete Structures in Indonesia

Abstract The reliability of concrete structures is affected by the characteristics of material, workmanship and loadings. Those variables contribute with certain degree to the reliability of structures depending on their characteristics. This paper presents the characteristics of material and workmanship of concrete structures in Indonesia and their influence to the safety reliability of concrete structures. Data of concrete compressive strength, yield strength of reinforcing steel and workmanship were taken from several construction sites of typical buildings including apartments, offices, hospital and other public facilities in Jakarta and Yogyakarta. Reliability analysis then was carried out to calibrate the load combinations and strength reduction factor of Indonesian Concrete Code SNI 03-2847-2013. The loadings used for reliability analysis were taken from available literatures. Reliability analysis results show that safety factors and load combination factors in Indonesian Concrete Code SNI 03-2847-2013 were conservative for load combinations D+L+W ; and D+L+W+R ( D = dead load; L = live load; W = wind load; R = rain/roof load). The analysis result could also be used as first sounding on transition to performance based design code.
