DNA sequencing on a chip

Today, interest in developing new technologies that can analyze DNA sequences quickly and cheaply is intense. The authors are pursuing an approach based on a combination of molecular biology with semiconductor manufacturing technology that takes advantage of the miniaturization and parallel processing inherent in modern semiconductor technologies. In this article, the authors review the basics of semi-conductor photolithography and DNA sequencing technology, describe how these can be combined to create tools for rapidly accessing genetic information on a large scale, and recount their recent work in this field.
