The networked library: a cooperative training program for today's campus

At Rensselaer the libra y and computing center have worked cooperatively on a variety of projects for more than ten years. In the early 1980’s stajj%om each organization contributed to the planning and design of an on-line catalog, InfoTrax, that has since grown to include a wide variety of information. The libra y staffcontributes a regular column to the computing center newsletter and has recently begun a Usenet newsgroup on libra y issues. In the past two years we have worked together to design and conduct training on using on-line libra y resources. We have offered a series of short courses on using the InfoTrax database and another series on Internet resources. In this paper we describe our work on this joint venture: how it has benejted students andfaculty at Rensselaer what we have learnedfiom working together, and how we plan to continue our collaboration in thefuture.
