Self reported prevalence and treatment of sleep disorders in Austria.

Epidemiol Community Health 1995;49:645-646 Sleep disorders pose a very common problem which increases with age. The impact of sleep disorders and their treatment (hypnotics are among the most widely prescribed drugs) merits particular attention in western society.' This report aims to present some first data from a study on sleep disturbances in Austria, where, in the near future, a third of the population will be older than 60 years. The study was carried out by the Institute of Social Medicine, University of Vienna and the Austrian Sleep Research Association (ASRA).
