Upper Permian Radiolarians from the Sosio Valley Area, Western Sicily (Italy) and from the Uppermost lamar Limestone of West Texas

Reddeep-waterclays from the SosioValleyareain WesternSicily contain one of the richest UpperPermianradiolarian faunasof the world. 4 new generaand 4 new speciesare describedfrom this fauna. Conodontsfrom a calcareniteintercalation nearto the richest radiolarian-bearingsample indicatea Dzhulfianage.Thestratigraphic and paleogeographicimportanceof this deep-waterradiolarianfauna is discussed. For comparison with the Sicilian Upper Permianradiolarian fauna, the radiolarian fauna of the uppermost Lamar Limestone of West Texaswas re-investigated.In contrast to the previousagedeterminationsthis fauna is not of LateCapitanian, but of Dzhulfianage.Fol/icucul/us bispinosusn.sp. hasbeendescribedfrom this fauna.
