PROBABILISTIC MODEL FOR CONFLICTS AT URBAN UNCONTROLLED INTERSECTION. TECHNICAL NOTE

Studying the interactions of crossing vehicles at an intersection provides an important attribute for assessing the safety at urban uncontrolled intersections. In this study, the author attempts to develop a methodology based on probabilistic approach for determining the possible traffic conflicts at urban uncontrolled intersections. Field data is used to validate the new model. The model can be used to quickly estimate the possible conflicts at an urban uncontrolled intersection. The applicability of the model to identify the influence of parameters, such as cross-road traffic flow and percentage of turning traffic on number of conflicts, are discussed briefly.
