Analysis of Stalled Compressor and Application to a Nuclear Gas Turbine Plant

The general context of this work is the modelling of closed cycle gas turbine with a nuclear heat source. In this context, a description of the turbomachinery has been developed, based on a one dimensional approach. However this type of model requires closure relations as input data. The objective of this paper is to provide models, which are able to describe compressor behaviour in off-design conditions and especially full stall condition. The present model is a derivation from analytical developments and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation results (Large Eddy Simulations with a two-layer approximate boundary conditions). An important part of this work consists to establish and validate a model of stalled compressor by comparison with representative experimental data. This preliminary validation process shows that the stall model has not the same accuracy as those used for stable off-design conditions. The model is applied to circulators of High Temperature Nuclear Reactors.Copyright © 2008 by ASME
