Enhanced Resource Allocation Method for 5G V2X Communications

In this paper, we propose an enhanced resource allocation to reduce user equipment (UE) power consumption for 5G vehicular-to-everything (V2X) communication systems. The V2X UE operating in resource allocation mode 2 performs resource sensing to select proper resources to be used. For this procedure, the UE needs to keep monitoring and decode sidelink control channel in a resource pool, so that it leads in a lot of power consumption at the UE side. To reduce the power consumption, frequency selective partial sensing (FS-PS) is proposed. In the FS-PS, the UE performs sidelink control channel decoding for a part of sub-channels in the resource pool. After initial resource selection, the UE performs re-evaluation for the remaining part of sub-channels in order to avoid potential resource collision. It has been shown that the FS-PS can achieve 18 % of power saving gain compared to the legacy full resource sensing.
