Summaries of a wind energy project cover the March 1, 1981 to January 31, 1983 data on wind speed for several sites in Northwestern Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. There is also an extensive analysis describing the manner in which wind speed increases with height above ground level (wind shear) at two sites. The project examined wind shear as a function of large-scale weather systems called synoptic weather categories. The report describes studies showing the amount of energy that different wind energy conversion systems would have produced during the year 1981 at 100 feet above ground level at Windsor, Massachusetts. It also presents results from a computerized wind mapping program. 11 references, 23 figures, 28 tables.
