Multi-Conjugate Adaptive Optics for ELTs: constraints and limitations

Optique adaptative multi-conjuguee pour les telescopes extremement grands (ELTs) : contraintes et limitations. Nous discutons l'effet sur la complexite des systemes d'optique adaptative, classique ou multi-conjuguee, du passage des telescopes actuels, de 10 metres de diametre, aux futurs ELTs pouvant atteindre 100 metres de diametre. Nous mettons en evidence certains elements et parametres cruciaux qui imposent d'avoir recours a de nouveaux concepts et empechent une simple mise a l'echelle des systemes existants. Nous etudions finalement l'effet de l'augmentation de diametre du telescope sur la densite spectrale de puissance du systeme, en distinguant les cas de l'optique adaptative «couche au sol» et multiconjuguee.
