Modeling and simulation of Cyber Physical Systems: A case of an adaptive water management system

The distributed software working in changing environments operates successfully under a dedicated human supervision. Thus anchoring cost and time during its operation. This paper mainly focuses on simulating a Cyber Physical System (CPS). Main goal of our work is to provide, models as a view of the run-time behavior of an actual CPS. We provide here a workflow to simulate a CPS. A case study on Water Management System (WMS) using EPANET as water network simulator is considered. For computation, EPANET Toolkit is used to invoke EPANET through Matlab. Experiments withWaterNetGen, an EPANET extension to build synthetic models are also performed. Such models have been used to carry out experimental studies by varying different WMS parameters. This includes changing pipe sizing, system performance indicators, demand-driven and pressure-driven scenarios. Further, we make use of information and obtain a AutoCAD files to propose WMS design models based on our simulation experiments. To achieve this, we have used tools like WaterCAD and EPACAD in our WMS modeling experiments. Results of experiments have been provided along with experimental data.
