Comparison of active filter performance for harmonic suppression for multiple non-linear loads

This paper compares the performance of the active filter based on the novel current compensation technique with that of the filter based on sliding mode control law method. The nonlinear loads comprise a 600 W uncontrolled bridge rectifier and a 300 W electronic ballast. Experimental result shows that the reduction in the THD level is slightly better with current compensation method then with the sliding mode control method. If rapid load changes are taking place, the current compensation works better then the latter since the inverter output current tracks the compensating current signal closely.
