Automatic Generation Control in a Power System Using Microprocessor

Abstract It is possible to improve the behaviour of an automatic generation controller if a microprocessor is used for processing and conditioning the area control error. The processing routine is to be stored in the memory unit of an error adaptive control microcomputer built up around a microprocessor. The processing algorithm can be developed easily if a Z-transform model of the power system being controlled is made available as microprocessors operate in a sampled-data fashion. Therefore using differential difference technique the Z-transform model of a power system control area is first developed and the method of developing control software which will help achieving error adaptive control actions is then investigated. Some study results of a sample system are shown and the scope for further development is discussed.
