Concept for meeting the whole house heating load using a pulse combustion space heater

Documentation of a method to provide heat to an entire structure by means of an added pulse combustion space heating appliance installed in one room shows that a highly efficient space-heating appliance is an economically viable alternative. Case studies show the value of the approach and the problems associated with its use. Data show the fraction of the furnace load met by the space heater in the normal operating mode. Space heater effectiveness varies with room configurations. The study also found a higher degree of comfort with the combination of appliances than with the central furnace alone. 5 figures, 3 tables.
