First demonstration of multimode amplifier for spatial division multiplexed transmission systems

We present the first systematic study of a two-moded erbium-doped fiber amplifier, and identified its performance trends. By optimizing dopant distribution and pump modes we achieved over 22dB gain for both LP01 and LP11-modes.
