Leading the Way to the Hydrogen Economy and a Third Industrial Revolution

The rising cost of fossil fuel energy and the increasing deterioration of the earth's climate and ecology will effect economic and political decisions of the next 50 years. This article discusses the idea that the creation of a renewable energy regime, hydrogen fuel cell technology and smart power grids, will open the door to a so-called Third Industrial Revolution. The first major industrial region that harnesses the power of hydrogen will set the pace for economic development for the remainder of the century. The reconfiguration of the power grid will allow small businesses and homeowners to produce and sell power back to the grid, making broad redistribution of power possible. Public transportation will serve an important role as a major producer of power.
