Bronchiolitis

Bronchiolitis may be caused by a variety of agents, the most common of which are the viruses. The acute bronchiolar inflammation leads to diffuse airflow obstruction of variable severity. Although the acute disease is usually self-limited, mortality in affected infants under six months of age can be high. Moreover, survivors may demonstrate compromised lung function in later life. This review aims to update the reader on the recognition and management of this common pediatric disease entity.
