The FEBE Project: Designing a Clinical Information System

Systems design is critical to the success of clinical information systems. On the FEBE (‘Fluid Electrolyte Balance Estimation’) project a bedside workstation is being developed which aims to improve the management of fluid, electrolyte, acid-base and nutrition therapy. Working in close co-operation with a team of doctors and nurses a prototype has been built which incorporates design principles of wider applicability to the development of clinical computer systems.
