DEVONIAN EURYPTERIDS FROM INDIANA AND PENNSYLVANIA BY ROY E. PLOTNICK1

The collection of the University of Michigan Museum of Paleontology contains specimens from two previously undescribed Devonian eurypterid localities. Specimens assigned to Pterygotus sp. come from the now flooded Northern Indiana Stone Quarry from Rensselaer, Jasper County, Indiana. The material is preserved as carbonaceous films in dolomites, probably from the Middle Devonian Muscatatuck Group. These are the youngest known specimens of pterygotid eurypterids. A single large body plate is described from the Famennian Oswayo Sandstone of Port Allegany, McKean Co., Pennsylvania and tentatively assigned to the huge stylonurid eurypterid Hallipterus. There are a number of fragmentary eurypterids described from the Upper Devonian of Pennsylvania, but no new material has been described since the 1930s.
