DESIGN OF HIGH MODULUS COMPOSITE PAVEMENTS

Recent innovation in materials technology has enabled savings to be made in fully flexible pavement designs. A report by Nunn et al. (1997) described how using high modulus asphalt materials could lead to reductions in pavement thickness. To date however, traditional flexible composite pavement design has not benefited from such advances. Work carried out at Mott Macdonald has identified a renewed interest in the construction of flexible composite pavements. In an effort to increase the economic viability of such designs, the analytical approach was used to investigate alternative construction philosophies. The product of the design process was the High Modulus Composite Pavement (HMCP). For the covering abstract see ITRD E117840.
