Numerical calculation of the pressure pulse from a lightning stroke

During the past few years a considerable interest has developed in the characteristics of the pressure pulse generated by a lightning stroke. Jones et al. [1968] extended the strong-shock solution [Lin, 1954] into the acoustic region. The assumption in this approach that the pressure pulse is generated by an instantaneous release of energy in equilibrium has been disputed by Hill and Robb [1968], but thus far the nature of the initiation of the pressure pulse is not clearly resolved. Bhartendu [1968] has also published new experimental spectral and pressure data gathered at Saskatoon, Canada.
