Nitric oxide pumps up calcium signalling

Nitric oxide released by vascular endothelial cells in the liver potentiates calcium signalling in surrounding hepatocytes. This may represent a mechanism by which endothelial cells of the microvasculature can play an active part in coordinating the cellular function of an organ.
